I am sharing this lovely cling stamp, Winter Lookout #40-652. Are you a gardener? Do you love to feed the birds in your garden? Winter can be tough on our wee friends, and this little winter sparrow is all puffed out as he looks toward the wintery sky. I imagine he might be in an old barn trying to warm up before flying to his next lookout.
I wanted the winter sparrow and the sky to be my focal point, so I chose to use Prima Watercolors (classic) for the wintry sky, and Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencil for the reminder of the image. I chose to use pencil because I wanted to really capture the detail of the little sparrow, and the stump he was sitting on. When I was done coloring, I went back with my Copic Multi-liner pen for more detail.
For the portion of the sky, I cut a smaller piece of watercolor paper and used my Prima watercolor (classic). I wanted a cool grey sky with a little Bokeh incorporated within it. Once the watercolor was dry, I took the back of a round eraser and inked it up with some white dye ink and stamped several times - once for a stronger image, the second for a more muted image.
There are certainly a number of new, beautiful sentiments including in the Winter Release catalog, but, I decided not to include a sentiment this time. Instead I added some winter detail by using Red and Greens #51-064 and Nature's Song #51-014 The card is framed with the lovely new nested frames, Elegant Stitching #51-440 Elegant Stitching is such a gorgeous die. The petite design along the edge of the frame is perfect for the holidays. I love it! It's such a versatile die that I'll be reaching for it a lot during the coming year.
I hope you'll take a moment to look through the 2018 Winter Release Catalog. Also, don't forget to visit the Penny Black Stamps Facebook page, and subscribe to the newest video's by Jill Avery Foster for ideas and inspiration for winter card making using these new stamp and die sets.
Thank you so much for your visit today, hope to see you soon. Now go create something that makes your heart sing!
Sincerely,
Susie ~
This leaves me breathless, Susie. The detail in the sparrow, the MOST lovely winter sky, holly accent, and stitched frame, sigh... I notice the green bit of algae growing on the boards, particularly at the edge where they meet the window. I can literally feel the beauty of this as a clutch in my throat and a tug on my heartstrings. I shake my head. I can't say any more. I think you know.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Leslie. I thought of you actually when I colored this sparrow as I know how much you love to feed the little birds who come to your beautiful garden. It was also a departure from the classic styled Christmas cards we are creating this time of year. It also reminded me of some of the cold and snowy places we've lived in our life. And you know me - if I can find a stamp that brings a memory and story, it's mine! This time I just let the sparrow tell the story. Thank you so much for the visit my friend. I'm delighted to see you back with Power Poppy!
DeleteBig hugs, Susie ~
