Penny Black | Love You Every Day!

Love you every day
What a wonderful way to greet your loved ones each day!

I promised yesterday we'd meet again today and talk about CAS (clean and simple) designs.  So let's get onboard that Love train and talk about the newest collection of love-themed Happy Heart Day stamps and dies from Penny Black and how they can used to create a CAS design.

My first six cards for this release were layered with details, dimension, and patterned paper.  Penny Black transparent, cling and die sets make fun AND beautiful CAS designs no matter the medium used.  Learning to stretch our stamps and dies with different styles and techniques is a plus - that's value added for me!   Have you been to the Penny Black Youtube Channel?  Gimme 5, PB&J, Stamp & Paint with Mimi, all to numerous to list.  I learn something new each time I watch one, two or...

Today I have three CAS designs to share with you.  One with lots of white space, balanced and using the rule of thirds and odds.  The second, brings in patterned paper in a small print, while still keeping the white balance.  The third card uses patterned paper and a word die to convey the message.

On the first card I sponged a little distress ink on white card stock.  Stamped those sweet bluebirds on a separate piece of white card stock and colored with Copic markers and Polychomos pencils.  I then hand trimmed the image and laid them aside.  I die cut one of the balloons and used it to anchor Papa and baby, while Mama comes to the rescue and holds the balloon by a sliver thread.   When you create a CAS try to use the rule of thirds, odds, and bring the eye to the sentiment.  Three little birds gathered around the large balloon with 5 little sliver hearts in different sizes.   Provide interest by applying glossy accents in the eye area, while still keeping the card a one layer card that will go through the mail with regular postage.

Get on board the Love train with this sweet card.  My second card uses lots of white, and a small heart patterned paper as the background for that adorable die cut Love Train.  The top and bottom layers are white card stock with a thin red strip of glitter paper.  I used some fun foam behind those layers to lift them higher than the focal image, Love Train #51-487  The set includes the train, LOVE word, and little dies that represent the train smoke.

I have used the sweet little flower included in, Space Reserved #30-535 and a little die cut bird included in, Heart Balloon #51-493   I stamped my sentiment, Love you every day, from the set, Words Sweet #30-525 Each train car is loaded with love and flowers.

My last card for the Happy Heart Day release uses the Love word dies included with,  Love Train #51-487 and beautiful gold foiled heart paper that I used yesterday with the lovebirds.
I cut a panel of the patterned paper using the Elegant Stitching #51-440 backed it with fun foam and adhered it to cream card stock.  Then I cut the LOVE word die included in Love Train #51-487 from red glitter paper and placed it on the diagonal.  The O is placed right over the spot the arrows meet.  A few little hearts here and there to finish the card.   This is an example of how CAS design and pattern paper play together to project your card message and makes an elegant CAS card.

I hope you've enjoyed the week long Happy Heart Day party with Penny Black.  Be sure to visit the Penny Black Blog for party details, Blog Hop, Video's, and Card samples.

Until next time,
Come. Sit. Stay awhile.  I think we're going to be friends!

Party with Penny | Happy Heart Day

Welcome back Penny Black Fans!

Have you had fun hopping with Penny Black oohing and aahing over the new collection of love-themed stamps and dies?  Did you have a favorite stamp or die set?  Not sure?  Then grab a cup of your favorite hot beverage and settle in.  Let's visit for a few minutes, I'd love to share a few more card designs with you.

Hold on tight Valentine, your heart is in for a bumpy ride with this sweet set.   So Much Love #30-526 is an adorable little pup who is up up up and away in love on Happy Heart Day!

In my humble opinion there are stamp sets that are just made for layering and patterned paper.  The wonderful whimsical critters from Penny Black fit that bill.  I used a beautiful cool grey card stock base and layered it with a small floral pattern in peachy pinks, reds, and grey.  I die cut the floral panel using Elegant Stitching #51-440 and backed it on black card stock.  If you're like me, you have tons of patterned paper pieces in your stash.  I found a perfect piece with X's and O's and cut a tag using, Shades #51-055 then popped it up over the floral panel at an angle.  I stamped my sentiment, Words Sweet #30-525 and embossed it in white on another piece of black card stock and placed it across the panel.  Now comes the fun part!  I stamped my little pup and colored him with my Copic markers and Polychomos pencils.  I hand trimmed the image and added the glossy accent to the balloons.   Tip: don't get impatient - give your glossy accent time to dry and you'll be rewarded with beautiful dimension.  Once the image was dry I added some dimensional adhesive and off-set it over the sentiment and tag.  If you are concerned about mailing, just go up one size in your envelope.

Who loves the new frame die, Lovely Border #51-484  isn't it just the sweetest?!  This is a 6 piece die set that measures 5.4"x4.1" and includes the sweetest LOVE word die with heart cut-outs - I know, right!  Don't throw those little heart negatives away either - use them to embellish your cards, photographs, and how about inside those Shaker cards we all love to create!  These are the card styles you just want to hold in the palm of your hands when finished and blow a kiss across them before mailing.  I chose another piece of patterned paper from my stash, then created a frame in solid red cut with the Lovely Border die.  The floral panel is die cut using the Elegant Stitching die and fits right in the middle as snug as a bug!   My focal piece is the adorable pup I call, Freckles from the darling stamp set, Special Friend #30-531  Colored with Copic markers, Polychomos pencils, hand trimmed, and popped up with adhesive dimension tape.  I've also die cut the balloon from glitter paper and adhered it over the balloon image.  The sentiment is stamped and heat embossed with white embossing powder and laid across the frame at an angle.  The card base is a warm grey card stock to compliment the wood.

He's been working hard to win his Valentine's LOVE

Let's not disturb these lovebirds!  Aren't they just the cutest?  Have you noticed a recurring design style to these cards?   It's patterned paper (she smiles).   Let your paper work for you and the image(s) you choose.   On this card the arrows all point to the Lovebirds who are popped up over a small panel of love-laced patterned paper.  Your eye goes right to the middle to see the focal image and the sentiment, Words Sweet #30-525  The pattered paper has gold foiled arrows with gold glitter paper behind it, then the small panel with the red love-laced words.  The lovebirds are from the newly released set, Happy Hugs #30-524 and sit on a delicate circle from the die set, Stitched Square & Circles #51-422 and the love-laced panel is die cut from Elegant Stitching #51-440

I hope I've inspired you to look at your patterned papers and stamp sets differently.  The Happy Heart Day release from Penny Black is the perfect time to try something new for your Valentine!

Thank you so much for your visit.  Come back tomorrow as I wrap up this release with three more cards.  Let's look at CAS (Clean and Simple) designs.

Happy Heart Day Blog Hop | Penny Black

Hello Penny Black Fans!
It's a "Party with Penny!"   You're invited to join in the fun over the next several days as Penny Black reveals their newest collection of stamps and dies, Happy Heart Day!

Penny Black is kicking off the party with a Blog Hop!

You should have arrived at my blog from the talented, Penny Ward
If you want to start the hop from the beginning, you can go to the Penny Black blog for a complete list of all of the blog hop participants.   You can also find the blog hop list at the end of my blog post.

So let's get this party started!
This release is chock-a-block filled with love-themed stamps and creative dies that will make your heart sing!

Just for you Valentine!
the little blue bird seems to say.

Spaced Reserved #30-535,   Lovely Border #51-484,  Elegant Stitching #51-440

I absolutely adore the sweet little stamp offerings tucked inside Spaced Reserved #30-535.  Don't overlook these little gems when you start designing your cards.  Many times they can be used to create background scenes and even a full card design.

To frame the outside of this sweet card I used the new Lovely Border die, #51-484 and the Elegant Stitching die, #51-440 as an inside panel.  The soft grey striped patterned paper is such a nice contrast to the peachy pink.  For the third panel I stamped the small images randomly around a rectangular post-it note and colored all the images with Copic Markers and finished with a little Polychomos pencil.   Once my coloring was done I softly sponged on some distress ink.

The smallest panel was cut with the smallest of the Lovely Border dies #51-484   I used my Misti to position my sentiment and stamped with black ink.   One of the sweetest images in this set is a little blue bird (in my humble opinion).   I colored, hand trimmed, and positioned it looking upward toward the balloon.  I die cut the smallest heart from the set, Heart Balloons #51-493  and adhered it to the panel with dimensional tape.   To give some interest and carry the sentiment through I attached some very petite sliver thread to the balloon and looped it around the sentiment to the little birds mouth.

My second card features the main character from the stamp set, Space Reserved #30-535   Penny Black is known for their adorable critter characters.  This little Teddy bear is no exception!  He's got a space reserved for his Valentine and a little gift to give as well!

Spaced Reserved #30-535,  Lovely Border #51-484

Colored with Copic markers and finished with Polychomos pencil, this guy will steal your heart away!  He even made sure to put a little heart on his sign to entice his Valentine.  I have used the new Lovely Border #51-484 and Heart Balloons #51-493 again to show you how versatile they are.  Both of these cards could be created as "new baby" cards just by changing your color palette, sentiment, and popping up a different sign on the bench (easy peasy)   How sweet would that be?!

My third and last card for today is created with All My Love #30-534   I decided to paper-piece the word LOVE on this image so I stamped the image several times.  I colored the first one with Copic marker and finished with Polychomos pencils.  Next, I stamped the image several times on different patterned papers and trimmed out the LOVE letters (she smiles).   After adhering the letters I hand trimmed the entire colored image and placed it over three hearts die-cut from the set, Heart Balloons #51-493  I had one piece of pink Ombre paper so I positioned the balloon dies very carefully.   It is helpful if you lay out your dies and stamps when designing to make sure your orientation is the way you envision it.  I stamped the sentiment in black using my Misti and added a few flat gems to go along with the sweet rose and heart studded balloon Teddy has for his Valentine.

He's peeking out to say
Happy Heart Day!

All My Love #30-534,  Lovely Border #51-484,  Elegant Stitching #51-440, Heart Balloons #51-493

Penny Black | Happy Heart Day 2019

Hello Penny Black fans!

It's time for a new collection of stamps and dies from Penny Black!   This new collection is all about love-themed products that can be used to create Valentine, friendship, anniversary, thinking of you, and even birthday cards AND adorable projects!  These new stamps and dies will make your creative heart sing!

I've been sharing sneak peeks this past week and now it's time to show the full reveals and get ready for a party with Penny!  Penny Black has been gearing up for a fun Blog Hop scheduled for December 17th so please mark your calendars and don't miss it.  We'll be sharing a $50 giveaway to three lucky people.   I'll share more about the Blog Hop and giveaway at the end of my blog post.

As I began creating cards for this release I sketched out some different ideas and arranged dies and stamps together.   Don't forget to look your stamp sets over for the sweet little offerings because many times they can be used for backgrounds and even full card designs - I call that a bonus card!  And that is what this card is all about!   I used several of the little stamps that are included in the stamp set, Space Reserved 30-535   I also framed it with the beautiful frame die set, Lovely Border 51-484, and the smallest die from the new die set, Heart Balloons 51-493

Just for You, Valentine! Penny Black Stamps Inc. 30-535, 51-484, 51-493

Just for You, Valentine!  Penny Black Stamps Inc., 30-535, 51-484, 30-493

I love the softness to this card.  Oh don't get me wrong, I love those strong reds we all use during the month of love, but I also love soft pinks too.  Wouldn't this be adorable for a new baby card?  Just change the sentiment!

Now, I want to return to my comments earlier in the post about the Penny Black Blog Hop that is scheduled for Monday, December 17th   Penny Black Stamps Inc. will be offering a $50 giveaway to three lucky participants to their online store.   Just visit the Penny Black Stamps Inc. Blog on Monday and join in on the Hop.  Leave a comment on one or all of the blogs to be considered.  This is a beautiful love-filled release.  Hope to see you at the Hop for the full reveals!

Edited on 2/18/2019    This card has been selected as a Splitcoaststampers Favorite card for the "Best of 2018" and in pinned to their "Best of 2018 board"

Until then,

Penny Black Welcome Winter | Winter Days |

Hello Friends!

I'm popping in tonight to share one more card with you from the Penny Black Welcome Winter Release before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Today I have chosen to pair up two beautiful sets.   Winter Days #30-517 and Tweet Wreath #40-630 on a round card base.   I also used a beautiful frosty technique I saw on the Same but Different Christmas Card Series.   It provides a beautiful soft frosty glow to your piece.

The wreath was stamped using Archival Ink.  This is a wonderful ink to use when you want to use your Copic markers.  Stamp in a light ink and then use your Copics over it.  You'll get that sought after no-line coloring look that everyone loves.   After the coloring was done I added the Sookwang and Diamond Dust for the frosty finish and set the wreath aside.

Winter Days #30-517 is a lovely winter scene in a clear stamp set.   So many ways to design with this particular stamp.  I watercolored with Ranger Distress Inks and Tombows and finished the scene with some snow splatters using Dr. Ph. Martin's Pen White.   Both the scene and the wreath were adhered to a round card base and trimmed with my favorite gold leaf pen.   I added the word, Joy, in gold from the World of Wishes #51-067 Creative Die set

From our home to yours, may your Thanksgiving be blessed and your family close.   Make some memories and cherish the time together.   I'll see you again soon.

Sincerely,
Susie ~

Penny Black Welcome Winter | Creative Dies |

Hello Penny Black fans!

Are you happy it's Friday?!  Do you feel the stress creeping up with the holidays approaching?  Well, I have an idea.   How about some quick and simple Christmas cards to add to your growing collection.   Penny Black is featuring some new Creative Dies in the Welcome Winter Release that play so nicely with their other release dies.  I like that don't you?  I consider it a value added when I can mix and match my other Penny Black Creative Dies with the one of two new dies.  That's a win/win!

I have a "Two for Friday" today.  I chose patterned paper from Penny Black's paper pad, Madison #80-001 with snowflakes and dots and an icy aqua palette.  I wanted to these cards to be a set so I used the same paper on both cards.

The first card features the new Neighborhood Border Die #51-459 coupled with World of Wishes #51-067 and one of the Stitched Edges #51-136 (this set includes two creative dies).

The second card features the second edge die, and the littlest deer from Together #51-069 and Tree of Joy #51-089    Don't forget to use your negatives from the Tree of Joy!  The star makes a nice add-on element to sparkle things up.

Sliver, Aqua, and Sparkle - Add some Creative word dies and it just doesn't get easier!   Take a little break, make a cup of your favorite beverage, and create a set of quick and simple cards this weekend.

I'll see you again next week when I feature another Penny Black Welcome Winter Release stamp set.

As always, thank you so much for your visit.

Sincerely,
Susie ~

Christmas Wishes

Hi Friends!

I'm back sharing another Christmas themed card featuring two new items from the newest Penny Black Release, Welcome Winter Paper Scroll #51-458 and a new sentiment set, Joy & Merriment #30-501

Penny Black Stamp (Paper Scroll #51-458Jo; Joy & Merriment #30-501; Festive Florals #40-352)

I used the creative die, Paper Scroll as my "creative foundation" of my card and paired it with one of the beautiful sentiments from the Joy & Merriment stamp set.  I sponged some Ranger Antique Linen Distress Ink over some Saffron colored card stock and then embossed the sentiment with some gold antique embossing powder.   I wanted to use a red, green and gold color palette for this card so the lovely poinsettia from Festive Florals #40-352 was the perfect choice.

When I color I sometimes lay down a base color first (like underpainting when you are watercoloring).  I used Copics to color with first, then came back with Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils.   This is just a preference and you can certainly choose to color with either medium.   Once I colored, I included some more interest by trimming the image with some gold leaf pen leaving a few larger drops on petals and leaves here and there.   I added some dimensional adhesive to the back and popped it up along the side of the Paper Scroll.  Then I tucked in some gold die cut berry branches, Nature's Song #51-014 in the top and bottom.  I also back the Paper Scroll with some fun foam for more added dimension.

The sparkle you see on the card and next to it is Tim Holtz Distress Stickles Dry Glitter (clear rock candy) by Ranger.  I keep it on my desk during the holidays and sprinkle it around the card with I photograph.  I also sprinkled a little on the card to give a festive look.   Once I finish taking the photographs, the glitter just falls right off and back into the jar it goes!   I added some flat dots and my card is finished.

Wondering where you can shop these lovely stamps and dies?   Right here!

May the Spirit of Christmas
Bring Joy to Your
Heart
And Happiness
To Your Home.

Sincerely,
Susie ~

Penny Black | Welcome Winter | Christmas Lantern + Marker to Stamp Technique

Hello friends!

I'm back again sharing another card featuring the beautiful Penny Black Lantern Cling Stamp #40-660 from their newest Welcome Winter release.   Isn't this a beautiful and realistic illustration?   I paired it with Brush Pines #40-408, and my very favorite, Script #40-470   All three are etched red rubber cling stamps.  These stamps leave a beautiful impression the first time.  I'm falling in love again with red rubber stamps (she smiles).

Penny Black - Lantern #40-660, Brush Pines #40-408, Script #40-470

These stamps are perfect for marker to stamp techniques.  I used a combination of water-based markers (Tombow's) and Ranger Distress Inks to color both images.  The ink glides over these stamps like butter!   First, I stamped the Brush Pines on Canson XL Series Cold Press 140 lbs watercolor paper, then applied a mask over it and stamped the Lantern.   Watercoloring with water-based inks is easy and provides such lovely results.  You can find the technique I've used on the Penny Black Youtube Channel.  Once the coloring was finished, I applied both masks and then stamped the Script stamp very lightly with Ranger Distress, Antique Linen, then a little Weathered Wood sponged for some contrast.

These stamps are large and I wanted my piece to fit on an A2 card base.  Once everything was colored, I took a deep breath and began fussy cutting around the entire image.  Next the trimmings!  I trimmed the edge with my favorite gold leaf pen, and added some Ph. Martin Pen-White on the lantern and the pine boughs.  Splatters of Pen-White across the lantern and background added more detail and texture.   I backed the panel with some fun foam for dimension and placed it on the card base.   I couldn't be happier with the finished piece, and hope it resonates with you too!

A Lamp Unto My Feet

Your word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105
Until next time.
Sincerely,
Susie ~

My first card features the FSJ beautiful background stamp, Color Me Fall.    I already know I'll be reaching for this background time and again.   And if watercolor is your jam, you'll love how well FSJ deeply etched red rubber stamps marry with water based inks and markers.   I paired the background stamp with Spellbinders October Small Die of the Month, and my second FSJ stamp set, Thankful Friends.   Antique gold embossing here and there along the edge of the panel, and little bits sprinkled on the image project an old stationary look similar to those found in children's classic poetry books.

FSJ Color Me Fall, Thankful Friends, and Spellbinders SDOM - Oct18

We all love watercolor, and there are so many ways to incorporate it on your card.  This clean and simple (CAS) design pairs a watercolor wash and embossed sentiment from FSJ stamp set, Thankful Friends, as the background.  An acorn and maple leaf from the same stamp set anchor and balance the design.  All are placed on card stock die cut with Spellbinders A2 Curved Matting Basics A.   Did I mention the FSJ Thankful Friends includes 12 stamps in the set?!  Nice!

FSJ Thankful Friends and Spellbinders A2 ...

FSJ Color Me Fall background stamp steals the show again on this card with Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils as the medium of choice.   Warm, vibrant, color!   I didn't want to cover an inch of it and decided to use the Spellbinders May 2018 Small Die of the MonthBorder Sentiments to finish the design.   Perfect choice!

Penny Black Stamps | Welcome Winter Release |

Hello!

The holidays are upon us and card making is in full swing!  I'm delighted to share a Penny Black Cling stamp from the newest release, Welcome Winter.   This beautiful cling stamp, Winter Lookout #40-652 is now available.   You can find all the items I've used, and others at the Official Penny Black Stamps Online Store.  From classic holiday and winter illustrated images, to the whimsy we all love, there are new clear sets, cling stamps, and wonderful die sets - something for everyone!

I am sharing this lovely cling stamp, Winter Lookout #40-652.   Are you a gardener?  Do you love to feed the birds in your garden?    Winter can be tough on our wee friends, and this little winter sparrow is all puffed out as he looks toward the wintery sky.  I imagine he might be in an old barn trying to warm up before flying to his next lookout.

I wanted the winter sparrow and the sky to be my focal point, so I chose to use Prima Watercolors (classic) for the wintry sky, and Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencil for the reminder of the image.  I chose to use pencil because I wanted to really capture the detail of the little sparrow, and the stump he was sitting on.   When I was done coloring, I went back with my Copic Multi-liner pen for more detail.

For the portion of the sky, I cut a smaller piece of watercolor paper and used my Prima watercolor (classic).  I wanted a cool grey sky with a little Bokeh incorporated within it.  Once the watercolor was dry, I took the back of a round eraser and inked it up with some white dye ink and stamped several times - once for a stronger image, the second for a more muted image.

There are certainly a number of new, beautiful sentiments including in the Winter Release catalog, but, I decided not to include a sentiment this time.  Instead I added some winter detail by using Red and Greens #51-064 and Nature's Song #51-014   The card is framed with the lovely new nested frames, Elegant Stitching #51-440  Elegant Stitching is such a gorgeous die.  The petite design along the edge of the frame is perfect for the holidays.  I love it!  It's such a versatile die that I'll be reaching for it a lot during the coming year.

I hope you'll take a moment to look through the 2018 Winter Release Catalog.  Also, don't forget to visit the Penny Black Stamps Facebook page, and subscribe to the newest video's by Jill Avery Foster for ideas and inspiration for winter card making using these new stamp and die sets.

Thank you so much for your visit today, hope to see you soon.   Now go create something that makes your heart sing!

Sincerely,
Susie ~
