Love you every day
What a wonderful way to greet your loved ones each day!
I promised yesterday we'd meet again today and talk about CAS (clean and simple) designs. So let's get onboard that Love train and talk about the newest collection of love-themed Happy Heart Day stamps and dies from Penny Black and how they can used to create a CAS design.
My first six cards for this release were layered with details, dimension, and patterned paper. Penny Black transparent, cling and die sets make fun AND beautiful CAS designs no matter the medium used. Learning to stretch our stamps and dies with different styles and techniques is a plus - that's value added for me! Have you been to the Penny Black Youtube Channel? Gimme 5, PB&J, Stamp & Paint with Mimi, all to numerous to list. I learn something new each time I watch one, two or...
Today I have three CAS designs to share with you. One with lots of white space, balanced and using the rule of thirds and odds. The second, brings in patterned paper in a small print, while still keeping the white balance. The third card uses patterned paper and a word die to convey the message.
Happy Hugs #30-524 paired with Heart Balloons #51-493
On the first card I sponged a little distress ink on white card stock. Stamped those sweet bluebirds on a separate piece of white card stock and colored with Copic markers and Polychomos pencils. I then hand trimmed the image and laid them aside. I die cut one of the balloons and used it to anchor Papa and baby, while Mama comes to the rescue and holds the balloon by a sliver thread. When you create a CAS try to use the rule of thirds, odds, and bring the eye to the sentiment. Three little birds gathered around the large balloon with 5 little sliver hearts in different sizes. Provide interest by applying glossy accents in the eye area, while still keeping the card a one layer card that will go through the mail with regular postage.
Get on board the Love train with this sweet card. My second card uses lots of white, and a small heart patterned paper as the background for that adorable die cut Love Train. The top and bottom layers are white card stock with a thin red strip of glitter paper. I used some fun foam behind those layers to lift them higher than the focal image, Love Train #51-487 The set includes the train, LOVE word, and little dies that represent the train smoke.
I have used the sweet little flower included in, Space Reserved #30-535 and a little die cut bird included in, Heart Balloon #51-493 I stamped my sentiment, Love you every day, from the set, Words Sweet #30-525 Each train car is loaded with love and flowers.
My last card for the Happy Heart Day release uses the Love word dies included with, Love Train #51-487 and beautiful gold foiled heart paper that I used yesterday with the lovebirds.
I cut a panel of the patterned paper using the Elegant Stitching #51-440 backed it with fun foam and adhered it to cream card stock. Then I cut the LOVE word die included in Love Train #51-487 from red glitter paper and placed it on the diagonal. The O is placed right over the spot the arrows meet. A few little hearts here and there to finish the card. This is an example of how CAS design and pattern paper play together to project your card message and makes an elegant CAS card.
I hope you've enjoyed the week long Happy Heart Day party with Penny Black. Be sure to visit the Penny Black Blog for party details, Blog Hop, Video's, and Card samples.

Thanks for the info and suggestions on how CAS cards should be designed. Love your little birds and balloon card the best. Excellent coloring.
ReplyDeleteSusie, I have thoroughly enjoyed viewing your gorgeous cards. I adore pink and red so I am enjoying seeing all your Happy Heart Day creations! Sweet designs! Thank you so much for the comment you left on my blog. You made my day!
ReplyDeleteThis was a wonderful read, Susie. You do CAS as beautifully as you do the more complex designs. Everything you make, no matter the style, is perfectly balanced and gorgeous. These birds truly have my heart. So much sweetness and love in all these cards, which makes them ideal Valentines!
ReplyDeleteIs there any chance you may be biased? *laughing* Thank you friend, your words spoil me! CAS and patterned paper have never been my strong suite, but I give it the ol' college try! *laughing* I make mistakes but keep practicing, because I know I won't get better unless I do. With each card we learn something new - yes? I'm so grateful for all the designers who came before me and that I learned and continue to learn from (including you!). Thank you, Leslie.
DeleteChristmas love and hugs,
Susie ~
Fabulous CAS cards Susie! I love them all but that first one stole my heart at first peek! I LOVE CAS cards and my happiest cardmaking moments are when I finish one and I'm delighted with it! So yay for you and I hope you're delighted with these!!! Another style under your belt! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Pam! The first one is my favorite too! I had a blast creating all these cards for Penny Black Stamps. And thank you so much for taking the time to visit and leave some card love - I appreciate it! : )
