On Your Golden Jubilee

Since moving to Charleston, my husband and I have met a lovely couple who surprisingly have criss-crossed our path for many years until now.   Both are on staff with our church in Pastoral Care. We hit it off immediately and haven't looked back.

We have been on the Pastoral Care Team from the beginning with them.   Recently we have been asked to take the out reach ministry at our local Assisted Living Center where we have been providing a full church service for those who cannot attend a regular service outside. Most are wheelchair bound, or use a walker (very slowly). And believe it or not, many are in their 90's! They are dear hearts to be sure. And it is an honor and privilege to serve the Lord in this way.

Last Sunday as we had coffee together after church, I was asked if I would create a Golden Jubilee card for our friend's sister, a Catholic Nun, celebrating 50 years this coming week.

Please keep my husband and I in your prayers if and when we come to mind. When asked by a sweet resident what purpose God has for her now (she is 93), I replied, tell your faith story.

"The shortest distance between a human being and Truth is a story." Jesus, himself, told stories about the most common things in the world: a lost sheep, a seed that falls on rocky ground, a man whose son runs away from home.

All personal theology should begin with the words: Let me tell you a story. ~ Sue Monk Kidd from the book, Firstlight.

The sentiment is computer generated.  The cross is a stamp from the Verve Stamps set: Jeremiah 29:11 and is embossed with Rangers Liquid Gold Embossing Powder.   The floral and Bible image is hand sketched with pencil and watercolored with Grumbachers Opaque Watercolors.

Blessings
Sincerely, Susie ~

  1. Beautiful, the card and the post about the card. The Lord is truly using you and Vance in this ministry to seniors. You are their 'church', truly, as you bring the love of our Lord to them in many ways, from just showing up, to talking with them, to praying with them and ministering to their needs. Love you dear friend, DAF

  2. How beautiful this is, Susie. You're using the gifts you've been given, and giving back many times over. I know you enjoy your time with the folks at assisted living as much as they enjoy you, and you are surely a blessing in their lives.

  3. Oh, Susie, you've drawn, colored, and designed a most beautiful card! And what a blessing you and Vance are to these precious ones in the assisted living facility. And, yes, our stories are so important when it comes to sharing our faith. That's how Jesus did it...telling stories/parables. Praying for you both and for those whose lives you are touching at a special time when they need it most. Tender hugs and love, dear friend!

  5. Susie, I wonder if the card recipient has any idea that this beautiful hand-crafted card is unique (and therefore especially precious) ... since you hand drew and painted the Bible and floral images! How wonderful that you and your husband are being Jesus' hands, feet, voice and heart as you minister at the assisted living center! May the Lord richly bless these times of worship and fellowship!
